Welcome to Gatorama, one of Florida’s oldest and most iconic alligator attractions! Long before the major theme parks redefined the Sunshine State, we were right here in Palmdale, offering visitors a wild, authentic glimpse into the prehistoric heart of the Florida Everglades.
Founded in 1957, Gatorama has proudly preserved the rustic, adventurous spirit of “Old Florida” for nearly seven decades. We are not just an attraction; we are a living piece of Florida history, an active conservation partner, and a working family farm dedicated to preserving the legacy of these incredible apex predators.
| Year | Historical Milestone |
|---|---|
| 1957 | Cecil Clemons opens Gatorama in Palmdale, establishing it as one of the state’s pioneer roadside alligator attractions. |
| 1968 | We became a sanctuary for the American Crocodile, establishing an active breeding colony to protect this critically endangered species. |
| 1987 | The Register family takes the reins, initiating alligator farming and integrating conservation with deep roots in local agriculture. |
| 2006 | Allen and Patty Register officially take full ownership of the property, expanding and modernizing our interactive guest experiences. |
| Today | We stand proud as a premier eco-adventure park, home to one of the largest collections of crocodiles and alligators in the United States. |
Over the decades, Gatorama has grown into a destination focused on education, conservation, and sustainability. Our experienced team cares for a diverse collection of crocodilian species while sharing their knowledge with thousands of visitors each year.
Our evolution from a traditional roadside stop to a full-scale agricultural and conservation facility is at the heart of our mission. We work side-by-side with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission to rehome nuisance alligators, and we are home to one of the few breeding colonies of critically endangered Orinoco crocodiles.
Every August, we open our doors for the world-famous Gator Hatching Festival, giving thousands of guests the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to feel a baby alligator hatch right in the palm of their hand.
Gatorama continues to be run with the same family-focused values that have defined us for generations. We believe in real, authentic, hands-on memories. From our wooden boardwalks over massive swamp habitats to our hands-on “Fast Hands” feeding challenges and “Catch-a-Gator” pond, we invite you to experience Florida exactly as it was meant to be.
Come play wild, and become a part of our future!
