Nile Expedition

Cross continents to observe the raw power of the legendary African apex predator of the Nile River. Our Nile Expedition exhibit features massive, highly active Nile Crocodiles known worldwide for their incredible stealth, intelligence, and lightning-fast speeds. This habitat is designed to showcase how these legendary predators hunt and survive along riverbanks. In their native African rivers, lakes, and freshwater marshes, they hunt in groups and feed on a powerful diet ranging from large fish and birds to wildebeests and zebras.

Nile Crocodiles have a very high wild population density in healthy African river systems, often basking by the hundreds on sandy shores, a social structure we replicate here by maintaining a dynamic, multi-animal habitat under expert keeper supervision.

  • Fun Fact: Nile crocodiles have one of the strongest bites in the entire animal kingdom—exerting pressure eight times stronger than a Great White Shark’s bite!

  • Gatorama Explorer Question: Watch the Nile crocodiles swim. Can you see how they use their powerful tails to glide through the water without making a single ripple?
